Mold Remediation for HVAC systems should only be done by experienced contractors.  If any part of the system is neglected,  any mold growth that might remain in the area could potentially re-contaminate the entire system.

Equipment used while remediating biological growth is as important as the procedures that need to be followed.   All equipment must be HEPA (High-efficiency particulate air) filtered.  This means the air filtered must remove 99.97% of all particles greater than 0.3 micrometer, which is much smaller than average mold spore.  This assures any mold spores disturbed during the remediation will be captured in the equipment and will not be released back to indoor air.

DUCTZ does not use any chemicals that are biocides inside the duct system.  We do not spray any chemicals and attempt to kill mold or any other biological growth.  Proper remediation techniques is to remove the contamination from the system (source removal.)  Then, depending on the type of duct work, a preventative product with anti-microbial could be used as an option to prevent future biological growth.

Cleaning mold from an Air Duct 

For duct board and air handler insulation we use a surface sealant such as Fiberlock 8000 or similar that seals the fibers in, covers the surface and makes it smooth and non-porous. It also contains an EPA-registered active ingredient to deter future fungal activity on or in the coating.

For nonporous surfaces like flex duct, metal duct work and on the air handler components,  DUCTZ uses BBJ C1 antimicrobial.  The product is applied through fogging on the duct work and air handler components.  The product “controls and inhibits the growth of microorganisms- such as gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and mold- that forms on the air ducts, cooling coils and other working parts of the system.”
